“Ceili and I are thinking about doing the Pacific Crest Trail next year,” my daughter Chloe mentioned casually. She eagerly turned, scuffling her running shoe toe in the dust. She looked up, shyly considering my reaction. Then out, again, to the endless horizon.

I was then struck, in awe of how life can go down. I was once more on this trail, but I now had a daughter nearly the same age as I had been back then. A daughter who tells me of her own plans to venture down the very same path.

The trail, thus, came back to life, back into my life.

Chloe’s trail in 2015 being a conga line of people weaving from south to north. While mine was of two girls with three horses, who, over forty years ago, despite the trail being barely in existence, just went.
